The Children of Cairo - The possibility of Hope
In 2026, I travelled through Cairo to document the lives of children growing up on the streets, struggling to survive in a city of contrasts.
Behind the noise and chaos of Egypt's capital, another world exists; that of children growing up on the streets, struggling to survive in a city of contrasts. Their daily lives are marked not only by poverty, but also by human exploitation, dangerous living conditions and frequent accidents, including severe burns caused by old and unsafe electrical installations.
Through my photographs, I wanted to look beyond their difficult circumstances and capture their faces, their dignity, their vulnerability, and the moments of childhood that persist despite everything. These are not just images of poverty, but portraits of children whose lives deserve to be seen, whose stories deserve to be told, and whose hopes should never be forgotten.
