Amboseli National Park, Kenya
A magnificent lioness with a fascinating gaze, in Africa. Queen of the wild.
He may be the clan leader, but the lion doesn't take much part in family life.

Apart from his 15 hours' sleep a day, he is mainly concerned with ensuring the safety of the pride from attacks by other lions or hyenas.

The lionesses are responsible for raising the cubs. They are all related, and the bonds between them are very strong.

A female lion will therefore also look after cubs that are not hers, including suckling them.
It is generally accepted that lionesses are also responsible for hunting, in groups in open areas. Only very rarely does the dominant male take part, for example when a large prey such as a buffalo or elephant is involved.
