In 2016, the gorillas moved from the "at risk" category to the dramatic ”endangered" category. The apes' habitats are disappearing under pressure from agricultural activities (which affect 76% of the species), logging (60%), livestock farming, road and rail construction, oil and gas drilling and mining.
