In this work, I captured the joyful essence of childhood in the rain (it was monsoon season) after school. Through the black and white, every smile and splash emerges with dramatic intensity, underlining the beauty of simple but powerful moments.
This piece brings an invigorating energy and a reminder of pure happiness, positivity and nostalgia.
The reportage from which this photo is taken won 3 awards at the IPA (International Photography Awards) in New York, USA, in 2016, and was awarded Best Documentary Photo at Boundless Pictures in 2024, Great Britain.
It was published in the book ‘L'Odyssée de Grégory Herpe’.
