Vilnius, Lithuania
Statue of Saint Helena on the roof of the cathedral in the Lithuanian capital, sculpted by Kazimierz Jelski in 1786.
My aim was to achieve total deprivation of perspective, by making the building disappear and giving a huge part to the divine skies surrounding this saint.
The saint carries a golden cross and rises towards the cloudy blue sky.
The cathedral is located in the medieval part of the city of Vilnius, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the heart of the spiritual life of this Baltic country and is dedicated to Saint Stanislas and Saint Ladislas, with a chapel dedicated to Saint Casimir. This chapel is a place of pilgrimage for the whole country and neighbouring countries.
