Genoa, Italy

In Italy, churches are everywhere.
And when you raise your eyes to the sky, you still discover crosses, in the architectural haphazardness.
When I took this photo, I was in Genoa to exhibit at the 6th Biennale di Genova - International Contemporary Art Exhibition.
In my spare time, I wandered around the city, in particular the old medieval quarters along the harbour, linked by narrow streets to religious buildings.
Eyes to the sky, a sky that in Italy is to be taken philosophically as well as literally.
Whatever the case, the charm of the birthplace of explorer Christopher Columbus and violinist Niccolò Paganini is palpable around every corner.

Photo published in the Musée de St-Cyprien exhibition catalogue following the exhibition ‘L'Odyssée de Grégory Herpe’, a retrospective of his work, from March to June 2017.
