Dong Nai, Vietnam.
A female hog deer looks straight at me with those enormous, tender eyes, and I cannot help thinking of Bambi. There is something almost disarming about her expression, a mixture of innocence, curiosity and quiet vulnerability.
For a moment, I forget my camera. I am simply moved by her presence, by the fragile beauty of this encounter, by the trust and uncertainty held in her gaze.
Perhaps this is what wildlife photography is really about: not just showing animals to the world, but making people feel something for them.
Because behind every pair of eyes is a living being, with a place in this world that we have a duty to protect.
