Odessa, Ukraine.
In this work, I have captured the dynamic contrast between the new and the old, movement and stagnation. The young, tattooed, sporty, and sexy blonde woman, full of life, stands in sharp contrast to the immobile old Russian Moskvitch car, its tires flat, worn out by the years. In black and white, I accentuate these contrasts, inviting reflection on the passage of time and the traces it leaves behind. This photograph captures a fleeting moment, a silent dialogue between the past and the present.

The Moskvitch is an iconic brand of the Soviet automotive industry, created in 1946 in Moscow. Its name literally means “the Muscovite.” It was developed after the Second World War. Produced by the AZLK factory, Moskvitch cars were designed to be robust, easy to maintain, and adapted to the difficult conditions of the Soviet Union. They enjoyed great success in the countries of the Eastern Bloc and even in Western Europe in the 1960s and 70s thanks to their affordable prices. Despite their lack of technical refinement, they acquired a reputation for reliability. Production declined after the fall of the USSR, and the brand was discontinued in 2001. However, in 2022, the Russian government revived the Moskvitch brand in an effort to reindustrialize in the face of international sanctions. This revival aims to produce modern cars, including electric vehicles, while resurrecting a symbol of the Soviet past.
