Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania

Photo published in the exhibition catalogue of the Musée de St-Cyprien following the exhibition ‘L'Odyssée de Grégory Herpe’, a retrospective of my work from March to June 2017, for which it was also the poster.

An elephant full of feelings. Its skin, the wrinkles, the cracks, the hair, almost a finely chiselled sculpture or drawing.

Elephant population levels have begun to rise in Tanzania following the dismantling of ‘industrial’ poaching networks in 2019.

A famous Chinese businesswoman, nicknamed the ‘ivory queen’, was sentenced in February to 15 years in prison by a Tanzanian court.

Thanks to the work of a special unit formed in 2016 to combat poaching, elephant populations have risen from 43,330 in 2014 to more than 60,000 today,’ boasts the Tanzanian presidency.
