Quel plaisir hier après-midi d'avoir rencontré par hasard mon vieil ami Eric Ruf, que je n'avais pas vu depuis des années.
Et pourtant, nous nous sommes retrouvés comme si c'était hier, nous prenant dans les bras l'un de l'autre avec émotion.
Nous étions dans la même classe au cours Florent, dans ma première vie, cette école de théâtre d'où sont sortis tant de grands comédiens et comédiennes.
La classe regorgeait de talents, de Jeanne Balibar à Valérie Bonneton, d'Edouard Baer à Jean-Paul Rouve, Eric Berger, Ariane Séguillon, Thomas Le Douarec, Thierry de Peretti, Frédéric Quiring, Grégoire Bonnet, Valérie Dashwood, Laurent Morel, et bien sûr Eric Ruf.
Nous avions joué deux pièces ensemble :
-La Corde, de Patrick Hamilton, que nous avions co-mis en scène à 3 avec Frédéric Quiring, jouée au théâtre du Ranelagh.
-et Barouf à Chioggia, de Carlo Goldoni, mise en scène par Yves Le Moign', jouée en ouverture du Festival du cinéma italien d'Annecy, devant Alberto Sordi, en 1992.
Quel chemin parcouru depuis par Eric!
Imaginez, 33 ans à la Comédie-Française, dont les 11 dernières années en tant qu'Administrateur Général.
Il a apporté de la modernité à la Comédie-Française, en élargissant le répertoire aux auteurs contemporains et en féminisant la programmation.
Acteur, metteur en scène, décorateur, scénographe, Eric à tant de talents ! Il a joué les plus beaux rôles, Dom Juan, Ruy Blas, L'échange, Christian dans Cyrano de Bergerac mis en scène par Denis Podalydès, rôle pour lequel il a obtenu le Molière du comédien dans un second rôle, ainsi que le Molière du meilleur décorateur scénographe, en 2007.
Un 3eme Molière en 2016, de la création visuelle pour Vingt mille lieues sous les mers !
Au cinéma, il a tourné pour Nicole Garcia, Roman Polanski, Bruno Nuytten, Arnaud Desplechin, Yvan Attal, et tant d'autres.
Vous l'avez compris, j'ai beaucoup d'admiration pour lui, mais aussi beaucoup de tendresse.
Bien sûr, parce que nous avons vécu des moments merveilleux il y a plus de 30 ans, mais surtout parce qu'il est pétri de qualités humaines remarquables.
Eric termine son mandat à la Comédie-Française en août prochain, et vivra de nouvelles aventures au théâtre et au cinéma. Je ne doute pas de son succès, car il incarne tout ce que ce métier a de beau et de grand.
What a pleasure it was yesterday afternoon to randomly run into my old friend Eric Ruf, whom I hadn’t seen in years.
And yet, we reconnected as if it were just yesterday, embracing each other with emotion.
We were in the same class at Cours Florent, in my first life, that theater school that has produced so many great actors and actresses.
The class was brimming with talent, from Jeanne Balibar to Valérie Bonneton, from Edouard Baer to Jean-Paul Rouve, Eric Berger, Arianne Séguillon, Thomas Le Douarec, Thiérry de Peretti, Frédéric Quiring, Grégoire Bonnet, Valérie Dashwood, Laurent Morel, and of course, Eric Ruf.
We performed together in two plays:
Rope, by Patrick Hamilton, which we co-directed with Frédéric Quiring and staged at the Théâtre du Ranelagh.
Baruffe Chiozzotte (Le baruffe chiozzotte), by Carlo Goldoni, directed by Yves Le Moign’, performed at the opening of the Annecy Italian Film Festival in front of Alberto Sordi, in 1992.
What a journey Eric has had since then!
Imagine—33 years at the Comédie-Française, including the last 11 as General Administrator.
He has brought modernity to the institution by expanding the repertoire to include contemporary authors and by making programming more inclusive of women.
An actor, director, set designer, and scenographer, Eric is immensely talented! He has played some of the most iconic roles—Dom Juan, Ruy Blas, L'Échange, and Christian in Cyrano de Bergerac, directed by Denis Podalydès, a role that earned him the Molière for Best Supporting Actor, as well as the Molière for Best Set Designer in 2007.
A third Molière followed in 2016, for Best Visual Creation for Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea!
In cinema, he has worked with Nicole Garcia, Roman Polanski, Bruno Nuytten, Arnaud Desplechin, Yvan Attal, and many others.
As you can tell, I have immense admiration for him, but also a great deal of affection.
Of course, because we shared wonderful moments more than 30 years ago, but above all, because he is filled with remarkable human qualities.
Eric will complete his tenure at the Comédie-Française this coming August and will embark on new adventures in theater and film.
I have no doubt about his success, for he embodies everything that is beautiful and great in this profession.
